Buffalo Run RV Park and Cabins is nice, unassuming park along Island Park’s 30 mile stretch of main street. It calls itself the “Gateway to Yellowstone” and is only about 33 miles away and approximately 37 minutes. It’s a great place to make camp with a lot to see in the area, not just Yellowstone.
It’s open year-round and has activities for hunters, snowmobilers, skiers, fishermen (or fisherwomen), golfers and a lot of areas to hike and cross country ski. One stop that we particularly enjoyed was Mesa Falls.
The camp has gravel sites with grass between, and there’s quite a bit of space between sites. It’s laid out nicely and nice and clean. We didn’t use any of the laundry/bath facilities, but the grounds were kept well, so that should carry over to the other portions of the park.
All in all, it was a pretty good stay for what we were doing. Visiting old friends, doing some local sightseeing and then taking off for Yellowstone. There’s also a fair number of good restaurants around there if you don’t feel like cooking.
Stay safe and keep making those memories.
