The Art of the Hook Up

One of the things we struggled with was to find a good solution to have a bike rack for our ebikes and hook up Larry (the Suzuki Sidekick we tow). We didn’t want the bike rack on Larry because we didn’t want to take the bikes when we were driving Larry.

We came up with what we thought was a pretty unique solution. And, of course, it was Amazon to the rescue (I’m addicted to Amazon Prime and very rarely set foot in a store).

It took a few more parts than we initially thought it would. It sits in the receiver hitch of the motorhome, and then we added extenders so that we could hook Larry up with the Roadmaster 501 tow bar that’s attached to his front bumper.

The parts we needed were:
One Maxxhaul 70070 Dual Hitch Extension
Two StowAway Hitch Tighteners
One Reese 80305 Tow Ready Receiver
Three Connor Towing Trailer Hitch Locks (with keys)
One Swagman XTC2 bike carrier with fat bike wheel holders

Again, Thom handled it like the pro he is (sometimes I think he channels MacGuyver). And we now have a way to bring our ebikes with us without being on the back of Larry.

What do you think of our solution? Any ideas to do it better? How do you transport your bikes?
